Take Me Out to The Ballgame?
Over the course of the past 2009 Major League Baseball season, Major League franchises have seen a tremendous decrease in the number of attendance to their games. According to officials from Major League Baseball, attendance all around the country has decreased a total of 6.9% which is a lowest decrease in attendance since the year of 2003. According to statistical data given by baseball-reference.com as of October 6th, 2009 the average number of people in attendance for a baseball game in the year of 2009 was 30,218. This is a significant decrease from the record setting attendance in which occurred during the year of 2007 with an attendance average of 32,785. The decrease in the average number of attendance to a game over the past season can be traced to many factors.
The most likely factor in which has lead to a total decrease in the average number of attendance during the current season is the economy. With the current state of the economy it is difficult for a family of four to attend a baseball game. Many families cannot keep up with the rising prices of the food, soda, and beer located at the stadium concession stands. In order to help draw more attendance to their games many teams have began to cut back their prices on tickets for the games. According to Ronald Blum, the Washington Nationals are cutting back on the prices of some 3,300 seats. While teams like the Oakland Athletics has decreased ticket prices by an average of 10% and San Diego Padres is cutting back all individual tickets by 60%. Along with teams like the Nationals, Athletics and Padres a perennial powerhouse like the New York Yankees had to cut their best-field level tickets down from $325 to $250 due to a lack of attendance. When questioning Commissioner Bud Selig on the topic, he feels as though the teams did significantly well this season especially due to state of the economy. The most known factor a decrease in attendance is the economy but how well a team performs also affects the attendance of a team.
Even though money is a truly significant factor on the attendance of baseball games, the performance of a team does affect the number of tickets sold. For instance the 2008 World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies have a seen a 5% increase attendance over the 2009 season. While the Tampa Bay Rays who lost to the Phillies in the World Series saw a 3% increase in attendance after having ten previous losing seasons. Other teams in which had a successful attendance for the 2009 season were the Texas Ranger with a 14% increase and the Kansas City Royals and Florida Marlins who each had a 12% increase. Vice versa, teams like the New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Toronto and San Diego, teams who all had losing seasons each saw decreases of over 20% in attendance. Therefore, this proves that teams who perform at low rate of success have fewer individuals attend their games. In all honesty, no individual should want to attend a game in which they know their team will be outperformed by the other team. But, there is a key advantage for the teams in which had such low records and that is that they have the ability in advance to come up with solutions to solve their attendance problem for the upcoming year. Consequently, the performance in which a team has may affect their attendance but, the opening of a stadium has an effect on the overall attendance.
At the beginning of the season two new stadiums opened up in the major league baseball. Both of these stadiums being in New York City with the Mets opening Citi Field and the Yankees opening their remake of the former Yankee stadium. The new Mets stadium in which has been built cut the amount of seating in the stadium by a total of 16,000 seats while the new Yankee stadium has cut the number of seats by 7,000. This decrease in the number of seats has a significant factor on the Major League Baseball’s overall attendance because there are now 23,000 less seats in Major League Baseball stadiums to fill up. Also, for the upcoming season of 2010 the Minnesota Twins will be opening a new stadium and the Florida Marlins plan to have a new stadium by the year of 2012. Therefore, with the addition and future plans for smaller stadiums in the Major Leagues, the overall average attendance for the league has dropped significantly.
All in all, over the 2009 baseball season a total of 22 out of the 30 MLB teams saw a decrease in their attendance while three teams with increases are only up by less than one percent. Whether it is the poor state in which the economy of America is in today. Or fans of teams which never win may be finally fed up with wasting their money on poor entertainment. Or the fact that the new stadiums in which Major League Baseball teams build keep getting smaller and smaller. All in all, these three factors have helped lead to Major League Baseball having a significant drop in their attendance over the past year.

Take Command of Your Blood Pressure
Our blood pressure is the measure of the force of your blood against the artery walls, and it is described using two numbers: systolic and diastolic. Systolic pressure is the pressure exerted as your heart beats; diastolic pressure is the pressure exerted as your heart relaxes between beats. A normal blood pressure reading used to be less than 140/90 mmHg, with 120/80 mmHg as the ideal. But recent changes in the guidelines set normal as less than 120/80 mmHg.
It is normal for your blood pressure to fluctuate during the day due to physical activity or stressful stimuli; it should return to normal as your body adjusts to whatever situation you’re in. If it does not, if your blood pressure is chronically elevated to greater than 140/90 mmHg, then the condition is called hypertension. Hypertension is unfortunately common, affecting more than 50 million Americans.
We used to think that only diastolic pressure was an important predictor of cardiovascular events, but it is now understood that both numbers matter. Elevated systolic pressure is a key indicator of stroke risk, especially in the elderly. Left uncontrolled, it can also result in kidney disease, vascular disease, and increased risk of heart attack.
The most common cause of hypertension is aging. Blood vessels lose their elasticity as we age, and that reduction in the ability to expand and contract can lead to a rise in systolic pressure and a decrease in diastolic pressure. A young, healthy artery reacts just like a balloon would in response to increased pressure-it expands. Older arteries aren’t always flexible enough to do so, which means blood ends up pressing against the artery wall with greater force.
Another common cause of hypertension is heredity predisposition. Someone with a strong family history of hypertension is at higher risk of developing hypertension later in life than someone with no family history.
Hypertension that is caused by certain treatable conditions is called secondary hypertension. Nutritional causes are surprisingly common. One question I always ask patients is if they eat licorice. Licorice contains glycyrrhizin, a substance that may cause sodium retention and lead to hypertension. Excessive salt, alcohol, and caffeine can also increase blood pressure. Decreasing or eliminating these from the diet can do a lot to reverse hypertension.
Other secondary causes of hypertension may be reversible through surgery. These include constriction of the aorta, a tumor on the adrenal gland, or a blocked renal artery. People who also snore may have obstructive sleep apnea, a cause of hypertension that has several treatment options.
In other words, even if you’re leading a healthy lifestyle, you could still develop hypertension. This is why a complete evaluation by your personal physician is necessary. Diagnosing and eliminating any secondary causes can significantly reduce or even eliminate hypertension altogether.
If you have no secondary causes, however, the best way to treat hypertension is with lifestyle changes, even if you also need medications. I recommend a four-part program for all my patients with high blood pressure, consisting of:
1. Nutrition
2. Exercise
3. Stress management
4. Smoking cessation
Nutrition
From years of clinical studies, we know a lot about the impact of various foods on blood pressure. Fruits and vegetables, for example, are particularly rich in phytonutrients, which we’ve learned help lower blood pressure. In fact, all the foods essential to the Mediterranean diet discussed in step 1 — fruits and vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, cold-water fish, red wine, nuts, and beans — have been shown to help lower blood pressure. There are also specific foods you should stay away from because of their negative effects on blood pressure: saturated fat, trans fat, and sodium. In addition, excessive consumption of caffeine and alcohol can lead to a rise in blood pressure.
My first recommendation here is to follow a Mediterranean diet. But you can also add individual foods to your diet that contribute to reducing blood pressure. Green tea contains catechins, antioxidants that inhibit the action of an enzyme responsible for raising blood pressure. Pomegranate juice has recently gained attention for its ability to lower blood pressure as well as inhibit atheromatous plaque formation. Even chocolate can be beneficial if you eat the right kind and limit the amount. Moderate consumption of a small amount of dark chocolate, rich in flavanols, contributes to healthy blood vessels, which ultimate:ly leads to reduced blood pressure.
Increasing your intake of potassium, magnesium, and calcium may also have a beneficial effect. Supplements are one way to this, but you can also just choose foods rich in these minerals. Foods that contain a lot of potassium include tomatoes, bananas, blueberries, and oranges. Foods that contain a lot of magnesium include nuts, seeds, beans, fish, whole grains, and green vegetables. And dairy products are a particularly rich source of calcium.
Exercise
Exercise lowers blood pressure in a few ways. One way is by supporting weight loss, particularly the reduction of abdominal fat. Fat in this area is associated with elevated levels of a protein called angiotensinogen, which can lead to hypertemion. Exercise also strengthens the heart and makes the cardiovascular system more efficient by relaxing and dilating blood vessels. And if you exercise instead of raiding the refrigerator as an outlet for stress, you can both eliminate emotional eating and help yourself maintain a healthy weight. As mentioned in step 2, simply walking thirty to forty-five minutes each day can lead to significant benefits.
Stress Management
Stress releases catecholamines, chemicals that prepare the body for physical activity and can raise blood pressure. See step 3 for suggestions for reducing stress.
Smoking Cessation
Cigarette smoking causes arteries to constrict and contributes to blood pressure elevation. Smoking’s negative health impact, and some tips for quitting, is covered more in-depth in step 7 in the discussion on toxins.
If you currently smoke, stop. No amount of smoking is safe, and it is counterproductive to an otherwise healthy lifestyle.

Take Kids To What Suppose To Be A Romantic Getaway For My Husband?
Here’s the situation. My anniversary is in August and I booked a little weekend getaway for my and my husband (he doesn’t know about it) and my mom was going to watch the kids for the weekend. My kids are 7 and 3. Anyway, my grandmother has been very sick lately in the hospital and it’s really not a good time to leave my kids with my mom – she’s at the hospital everyday and when she’s home she’s usually waiting for phone calls from doctors, etc.
Anyway, the hotel is in Key West (we live in S. Florida so it’s a car ride). I already paid for it (I could get the money refunded). Do you think I should still go and take the kids and just enjoy a family weekend getaway or just cancel it, don’t tell my husband and plan it for a better time. The hotel was pretty expensive – but I was really looking forward to going.
I really don’t have anyone else I could leave the kids with for a whole weekend.

Does Anyone Have Any Good Advice On A Good Place, Preferably In The Florida Keys, To Take A Vacation In??
My friend and I are going to drive down to the florida keys for a week at the end of April, but we’re having a lot of trouble planning this. We’re looking to find some kind of resort type place on the beach that will have things like jet skiing, snorkling, etc.. all somewhat in the same area so we’re not driving around everyday trying to find everything.. or even just a hotel in the vicinity of these things. We’re college age, so we’re on somewhat of a budget, but we’re willing to look at anything, because we can’t find ANYTHING! we need help FAST!! we’re scared if we don’t book soon, there’s not going to be anything left because of the season. (and yes we’re looking through the obvious Expedia, Hotels.com, etc…) We also still don’t know what part of the keys is the best? Last question which is kind of silly, but I know there’s an ocean side to the islands and the gulf side, does either side have bigger waves? (you know ocean waves, not like bay/lake looking waves). Important!

Why Republicnas Have Winner Take All While Democrats Split The Delegates?
Is it logical that the republicans with a winner take all on most of the key states have a much clearner winner being determined while democrats:
(1) Do not count Michigan and Florida and most of CA for now
(2) Split all the majpr states between the candidates based on percentage
(3) Have these complicated caucuses to save money that has left many busy working people out
Why can’t the rules for both parties be the same. Looks like Republicans have their act together in this respect a little more and then Democrats have to deal with chaos all the time.
Otherwise we would have a clear candidate which is now being muddied and confused.
Does Anyone Know Of A Place To Take Care Of Dogs While Away?
Ok so here is the deal I am going to visit my family in Cuba next year around June or July I tried looking up places of possibility to leave my dog there until I get back 3 weeks I haven’t found anything but people that come to your house and feed them and take them outside and honestly my family and I are not comfortable giving a stranger a house key. We want a place to were we can leave the dog at until we come back I live in the Tampa bay area in Florida so it would be for this area or if not in this area then Miami Hialeah because that is where the plane we need to catch is at. If I could take him with me I would but the situation over there is completely different and it will be in summer and no ac and I have a shih tzu does anyone know of a reliable place?and if so what is the estamted price? Thanks in Advance.
