66-year-old found dead, homicide suspected

Key West police were questioning a “person of interest” on Friday in the death of a 66-year-old man who was found bound with tape in his apartment at the Senior Citizen Plaza on Kennedy Drive in Key West.Police spokeswoman Alyson Crean said the death of the resident is a homicide.Details were few but police said they received a call about 2 p.m.

Overnight homeless center’s management handed off

Despite a request from Key West officials for more time, the Florida Keys Outreach Coalition plans to turn management of an overnight homeless shelter back over to the city.

Keys charter schools grow in popularity

This year saw the opening of two new charter schools in the Florida Keys and the expansion of two others. That means of the 8,243 students served by the Monroe County School District, nearly 12 percent of them, 983 students, attend one of the six charter schools.
